Art Shows

Come celebrate with us the first Friday of each month from 5-8pm!!  First Fridays include a display of student works, face painting, art demos and all the junk food you can eat!  AND it’s free.

The Creative Side Inc. believes art shows can be a wonderful experience for a growing child. Walking into the exhibit they may be taken back by the sheer amount of artwork on display. Though the entire family may be very excited to find their child’s work, encourage the kids to amble slowly around the exhibit, taking time to look at the other entries, openly discuss what you like about specific pieces (avoid speaking negatively about any work, the artist may be right behind you). It is also interesting to try to figure out what the judge seemed to favor, was it originality, depth, composition? Have the kids pay attention to which pieces of artwork really stood out to them, so that they can begin to get a feel for the style of art they want to learn. Its also a good oportunity for kids to meet other artists their age, encourage them to compliment other artists, and ask questions about their artwork. They may learn something useful, or maybe even find a new friend!

Please review the concepts below with your child prior to the artshow:

Receiving a ribbon for your artwork is a great honor, but not the only purpose for entering an Art Show. It is an opportunity to meet other artists in your community, learn how artwork is displayed in a professional manner, and have your own Art matted and hung in a gallery of your peers.

Each judge has an individual field of study, or specialty in art and they may or may not be familiar with your style. Though the judges have distinguished reputations, and their votes are admired and respected, you should never allow their votes to discourage you.

The votes of the judges are not a personal judgment of you. After all, they are only viewing a small sample of what you are capable of. Also, the judges must look at a wide range of entries, and sometimes pieces of artwork aren’t able to get the attention they may deserve.

Art shows are an occasion where you can view the artwork of your peers, and a chance to network or mingle with the local art community. You may find artists who have the same drawing interests as you, or even discover an art style you never knew existed.
